Gas Prices Remain Stagnant
Gas prices have remained overall flat since last week, up 2 cents to a national average of $3.16 a gallon. New York’s state average is a tad higher at $3.18; this time last year, the state average was $3.28 a gallon.
AAA says as the winter season begins to wind down, calendar wise, refineries begin their transition to a summer blend of fields, which AAA says, often raises gas prices slightly this time of year. The organization also cited maintenance at facilities in North California as another cause for the slight uptick at the pump.
Locally, Cortland County has enjoyed lower than the national average gas prices. As of Monday, the county average was $3.15 a gallon with some stations reporting prices at just under $3 a gallon with a membership card. Neighboring Tompkins County currently has an average gallon price of $3.23 and Onondaga at $3.14 a gallon.
