There hasn’t been a significant decrease in gas prices both nationally and within New York State, but on the brightside, prices are much lower when compared to this time last year, according to AAA.
Currently the national average for a gallon of gas nationally is $3.54 a gallon, no change from a week prior, but compared to a year ago, it was at $4.47 a gallon. New York State stands slightly higher at $3.67 a gallon, down just one cent from a week ago. The state average this time last year was at $4.75 a gallon.
Cortland County remains well above the state average, at $3.75 per gallon. Surrounding counties to Cortland see much lower averages for gas.
Even with demand for gas increasing due to the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, prices are expected to remain steady as oil prices remain near $70 per barrel as fears of a global economic recession are still in view.
