Gas prices have increased significantly in the past week, according to AAA. The national average rose by 16 cents to $3.76 and New York State’s average increased by 12 cents to $3.82.
AAA reports the quick rise in prices is due to the sharp increase in the price of oil, which AAA says has increased 15% in the month of July, passing the $80 per barrel mark. Even with overall demand lower for gas, extreme heat in a majority of the country led to lower production volumes of gasoline at several refineries.
Cortland County has seen prices increase by 15 cents in the past week. The County average remains just under the state average, at $3.80 a gallon.
