Gas Prices Drop Slightly – Diesel Remains Stagnant

AAA says the national average for a gallon of gas stands at $3.81, down only four cents from last Monday and one cent higher than the average this time last year.

In New York, prices remain a tad higher than the national average. Currently the state average is $3.89 a gallon, down three cents from a week prior. AAA says the slow decrease in fuel is due to the high cost for oil, which prices range in the low $90 per barrel.

Demand is higher, according to data from the Energy Information Administration, but remains below last year’s rate. Prices are expected to drop even lower with increasing stock and slower demand.

Unfortunately for diesel prices, the national average remains high at $4.56 a gallon with New York’s average even higher at $4.75 a gallon.

In Cortland County, the average price for a gallon of gas is $3.87, two cents lower than the state average. Neighboring Tompkins County currently has county average of $3.92 a gallon.
