The national average for a gallon of gas jumped by 7 cents since last Monday to an average of $3.83. The New York’s State average rose by 8 cents to an average of $3.90, according to AAA.
AAA says the rise in gas prices has slowed in recent days, with a potential relief on the way. Prices have continued to rise due to increasing oil prices and extreme heat that faced a majority of the nation.
The Energy Information Administration says demand for gas has decreased with total domestic supply increasing as refinery operations return to normal after the extreme heat limited output.
For Cortland County, the average price for a gallon sits right at $3.92 a gallon. Some stations in the Cortland area are selling at $3.99 a gallon.
