Gas Prices Begin to Lower Again – Demand Continues To Increase

The pain at the pump may not be as bad as it was predicted as motorists plan to fill up their vehicles before the Labor Day Weekend. AAA says prices are slightly lower than last week despite demand increasing.

Overall, the national average is 5 cents per gallon less than the week prior, now at $3.82. For New York, the state average dropped by 2 cents per gallon to a statewide average of $3.90 per gallon.

AAA says the fall is due to the decline in the price of oil, which has dropped by several dollars per barrel and is hovering around the $80 per barrel mark. Unfortunately though, diesel prices have been heading in the other direction in terms of pricing. The national average for diesel is up 3 cents per gallon to $4.37 a gallon.

For Cortland County, prices remain a tad higher than the state average at $3.91 a gallon, neighboring Tompkins currently holds a $3.92 per gallon average.
