Executive Director and CEO of the Cortland County Business Development Corporation and Industrial Development Agency Garry VanGorder has announced he will retire from the position later this year.
VanGorder began his service back in 2009 to the BDC after he previously served as executive director of the Cortland County Chamber of Commerce. Overall, he has spent nearly 25 years in both local and regional economic development.
“There is never a good time to step away from a job like this because there is always the next project, always something important to bring to conclusion for the benefit of a community that I love,” VanGorder said. “But there are some realities you just can’t duck. Life is short and I hope to begin enjoying it a bit more.”
A national search has now begun to find a replacement for VanGorder, Michael McMahon, chair of the BDC and IDA boards stated in a press release.
