Gang Assault, Meth Possession Among Arrests by CPD

It was a busy end of week and weekend for city police officers in the City of Cortland. Charges ranged from Criminal trespassing to Gang Assault in the 2nd Degree. Below is the list of the arrests and descriptions.



Two Men Arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine:

On Friday April 29th around 6pm Cortland Police responded to the railroad crossing near Central Ave in the City of Cortland for a trespass. The suspect Joshua J. Morris was detained while officers investigated. During the investigation officers found a discarded glass container containing Methamphetamine on the ground in which Morris then fought with the officer as he tried to take him into custody.

Morris was found to be with additional Meth on him as well. He was arrested, processed, and released on appearance tickets.

Cody A. Brown was also detained by city police for trespassing on railroad property at the same time as Morris. When detained officers found Brown to be in possession of Meth as well. He was arrested, processed, and released on appearance tickets.

Both men are scheduled to appear in Cortland City Court on May 6th at 9am.

Woman Arrested After Punching and Choking Another Female:

On Saturday April 30th around 2am Cortland City Police responded to a physical altercation inside Woody’s Public House on Main Street in the City of Cortland.

The altercation involved 23 year old Elizabeth D. Brenchley who punched a victim in the face and then choked her until she could hardly breathe. Once officers arrived they arrested Brenchley who then began to actively resist arrest which prevented officers from placing handcuffs on her. She then kicked an officer in the face and officers then pepper sprayed her in order for officers to stop her aggression.

Brenchley was arrested for Disorderly conduct (Violation), Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, and Obstructing Government Administration (Both Misdemeanors)

She was arrested, processed, and released on appearance tickets. Brenchley is scheduled to appear in Cortland City Court on May 16th.

Three Men Arrested for Gang Assault:

On Sunday May 1st around 3:25am outside 7 Tompkins Street, City of Cortland Police responded to a physical altercation. The defendants Austin M. Palmer, Zachary A. Middel-Jones, and Nikolas M. Jones-Middel engaged in concert with one another in a physical altercation with a group of three 20-year old men. During the altercation the defendants punched one of the victims repeatedly in the facing resulting in the victim sustaining a broken jaw.

All three men were arrested for Disorderly Conduct (Violation), Assault in the 3rd Degree (Misdemeanor), and Felony Gang Assault in the 2nd Degree.

The men were processed, and arraigned in the Cortland City Court. They were remanded to the Cortland County Jail on Bail and are scheduled to reappear in Cortland City Court on May 4th at 9am.
