Future County Mental Health Building Receives Funding For New Furniture and Office Equipment

The new Cortland County Mental Health Building at the corner of Port Watson and Pendleton Streets has renovation work on the building well underway with an anticipated opening date sometime this year. During Thursday’s Cortland County Legislative meeting, it was a unanimous vote to authorize funding for furniture and office equipment for the new facility.

Funds for both the purchase of furniture and office equipment will come from the Cortland Tobacco Asset Securitization Corporation (CTASC) Board. Previously, the board voted to provide up to $70,000 for furniture and office equipment. The board also voted to provide up to $100,000 for the purchase of IT computers if other funding sources are not found by the end of this year.

The new facility will offer a space for individuals and families who are seeking care, it will also allow greater service capacity, specialized care, and community outreach. Renovation and planning on the new Mental Health Building has taken a number of years. Back in December 2022, the county received $5 million dollars in federal funding to help with the project from New York Senator Chuck Schumer.
