Freeville Fire Department Responds to Natural Gas Leak After Excavator Breaks Line

The Freeville Fire Department was dispatched to a gas leak around 9 in the morning on Thursday at the William George Agency off of Freeville Road. Due to the call, NYSEG was also called to respond to the scene. Arriving on scene, Freeville Fire says they found a significant gas leak. The leak was caused by an excavator accidentally hitting the gas supply line to the nearby building.

Freeville Fire says firefighters utilized a hand line to mist water on the leaking gas until NYSEG arrived on scene to shut off the gas supply. Dryden Fire was also requested to assist Freeville Fire with additional self-contained breathing apparatus personnel to assist in gas detection and fans in removing gas from inside the building.

The scene was cleared just under three hours, around 11:45am, after firefighters ensured levels inside and outside the building were safe.
