Freeville Fire Credits Quick Response to Reported Structure Fire in Heart of Village

Around 12:20 in the afternoon on Thursday, April 17th, Freeville Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 2 Main Street within the Village of Freeville. Freeville Fire says their duty vehicle arrived on scene of the call within three minutes of dispatch and confirmed a smoke condition within an apartment.
Due to the smoke condition and unknown source at the time, a 2nd Alarm was dispatched to bring in additional resources to the scene. Freeville Fire says with the assistance of Dryden Ambulance, the building was safely evacuated with all residents and pets accounted for.
Firefighters located the fire in a downstairs apartment and were able to extinguish the fire quickly. Firefighters then worked to ventilate the building and clear smoke from other areas. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time, Freeville Fire said in a release.
“I cannot express enough gratitude for the teamwork and rapid response of all departments involved. Their actions prevented the fire from spreading throughout the older structure. This incident is a true testament to the strong working relationships, training, and unwavering dedication of our emergency responders. It reflects the professionalism and commitment of the volunteer fire service to the communities we serve.” Chief of Freeville Fire, Michael Parker, said in a release.
Mutual aid on scene was provided by Dryden Fire and Ambulance, Groton, Lansing, McLean, Varna, and Cortlandville Fire Departments; Tompkins County Coordinators and Freeville Codes also provided assistance. Freeville Fire cleared the scene just after 3:15 in the afternoon.
