The Cortland County Department of Social Services has once again partnered with the Salvation Army and the Grace & Holy Spirit Church to provide warming shelters for those in need during periods of extreme cold temperatures.
Entitled “Code Blue,” the policy directs both facilities to open their doors and provide shelter on dates when temperatures are expected reach 32 degrees or below, including wind chill.
During these times, the Grace and Holy Spirit Center will be open Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 8 pm, located at 13 Court Street in Cortland.
The Salvation Army at 138 Main Street Cortland will be open Monday through Friday from 8pm to 8am.
On weekends and holidays, both centers will be open from 8 PM – 8 AM.
Hot meals will also be provided, along with services like personal care and referrals to counseling.
The program is free, voluntary and has no eligibility requirements.
Anyone in need of a place to go can walk into a warming center.
