Four Arrested On Drug Charges When Just One Was Sought

Saturday evening about 9, Cortland County Sheriff’s deputies went to a home on Little York Crossing Road in the Town of Homer.

Officers were hoping to find Stephanie Wiers, 24, who was wanted by Cortland Police on a warrant for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Wiers was taken into custody, and officers also found Travis Hartwick, 26, who was wanted on a warrant by the New York State Division of Parole.

Then, officers smelled a chemical odor, similar to making methamphetamine.

Two more people were found, making for two more arrests.

Officers returned Sunday morning with drug investigators and state police chemical crime scene team and a search warrant. Homer firefighters were there in case they were needed.

Deputies say they found several items used to make Methamphetamine.

Robert Benson, 42, Sarah Wacht, 31 and Wiers, who lived at the Little York Crossing Road address, were charged along with Travis Hartwick, who told police he was homeless.

All face charges that include meth manufacturing, conspiracy and possession of a controlled substance.

Sheriff’s Lt. Todd Caufield tells us the investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.
