The Cortland County Sheriff’s Department has filed four misdemeanor charges involving a minor against 36-year old Father Nathan Brooks of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse.

The charges were issued in Cortland County Court Thursday, and allege sexual abuse allegations against a minor such as forcible touching, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. These incidents occurred between 2019 and 2021 at undisclosed locations in the Town of Homer and City of Cortland. Brooks had previously served as the parochial vicar of St. Mary’s Church and St Anthony Parish in Cortland. Following policy, the Diocese has suspended Brooks from all priestly ministry as Administrator of the Church of the Nativity at St Joseph in Lafayette. He’s also been removed from Immaculate Conception in Pompey, St Leo in Tully and St Patrick Mission in Otisco during the investigation of these charges.

In keeping with the Diocese’ Memorandum of Understanding with local County District Attorneys, the diocese will fully cooperate with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office during the investigation.
