Local News

A Cortland County man, who has twice admitted to producing child pornography is on his way back to state prison.

41-year-old Paul O’Neill, formerly of 2752 Center Road, Freetown had his 2012 conviction for sexually abusing a child and producing child pornography overturned back in June due to errors in a plea offer that he previously accepted.

O’Neill pleaded guilty to use of a child in a sexual performance and course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree and was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 20 years of post-release supervision.

Last month, O’Neill affirmed his previous plea and conviction by once again pleading guilty to the same charges. He admitted that he had sexual contact with a 12-year-old child from 2005 to 2010. In addition, he admitted that he took sexually explicit photos of the victim.

O’Neil was once again sentenced to 15 to 25 years in prison, he has already served nearly four years and will be credited for that time.

He must register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
