The Cortland football team travels to Ithaca for the Cortaca Jug rivalry game to close out the 2023 regular season. Both teams enter the game 8-1 and nationally ranked – Cortland is 15th in the latest D3football.com poll and 16th in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) poll, while Ithaca is ranked 14th by both organizations. For the second straight year, both teams enter the game having already won their respective league titles – Cortland in the Empire 8 and Ithaca in the Liberty League – to earn NCAA Division III tournament automatic berths.
