Last summer was hard on the fish at the ponds at the Cortland Water Works. All were lost in the drought. Deputy Cortland Police Chief Paul Sandy let us know that the ponds were restocked on Mother’s Day weekend with eight grass carp (to fight vegetation growth), 50 rainbow trout fingerlings, and minnows.
Sandy hopes the trout can reach 2-feet long again.
Other goals for the Water Works include the installation of coin-operated fish pellet machines.
The deer are doing well, according to Sandy. He reports the bucks are showing impressive growth in their racks and there are a few fawns running around the place.
