The process of redrawing legislative districts in Cortland County is underway with a meeting last week at the Legislature’s Agriculture, Planning and Environmental Committee.
The county lost about 5-thousand residents according to the latest census, and that will force redistricting to better match the population.
As an example, the County Planning Director pointed out the statewide average is about 61-hundred residents per district. Here in Cortland County, it is about 27-hundred. We could wind up with fewer districts when the process is finished.
Census data not only guides the makeup of legislative districts, but is the measurement for how many government programs are funded.

This is a continuing story and we’ll continue to follow the process.
