A 19-year-old man was airlifted to a regional hospital Friday after he was rescued from the icy waters near a dam in Ithaca.
Just before 8am Friday morning police and firefighters received a call about a man at the base of Beebe Dam, just off the Thurston Avenue bridge.
It is unknown whether the man fell or how he got onto the ice. Police also do not know how long he was on the ice, the investigation is ongoing.
When firefighters arrived, they found the man was stranded on the ice at the base of the dam, temperatures hovered around 10 degrees.
Using ropes and ladders firefighters brought the man out of the gorge in about a half hour.
The unidentified victim appeared to have to have serious injuries and was hypothermic. He was later airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania, for treatment.
