Firefighters Battle Freezing Temperatures During Attic Fire in Freeville

Just after 4:30 in the afternoon on Saturday, January 20th, the Freeville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the attic of a residence on Mill Street. Additional Fire Departments from Dryden, Etna, McLean, Lansing, Cortlandville, and Groton also responded to the scene.

With additional manpower and apparatus, firefighters quickly stopped the fire from spreading to the rest of the residence and kept it contained to the attic and chimney and knocked it out. Dryden Fire said in a release firefighters removed burning materials from a woodstove and checked for any fire extension before they were cleared from the scene around 5:45pm.

Responding firefighters also had to deal with sub zero wind chills while on scene; temperatures on Saturday were near the single digits with sub-zero wind chills. No injuries were reported during the fire, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
