Around 12:10pm today, the Cortland Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 14 Kent Road in the City of Cortland.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the garage at the residence fully engulfed in flames and smoke. The first engine arriving immediately used its deck gun that is mounted on top of the truck to knock out the bulk of the fire. Firefighters continued to work to attack the fire quickly and were able to have the fire out within about 20 minutes of the initial call.
“Quick response and arrival was key to the fire not spreading to other structures.” City of Cortland Fire Chief Wayne Friedman said to X101.
The garage, which had two vehicles parked inside, is a total loss. The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental. All units were cleared of the scene about two hours from the initial call.
While on scene, Cortland Firefighters also responded to three additional alarm calls in the city.
There are no reported injuries. Assisting the City of Cortland Fire Department on scene was TLC Ambulance.
