Around 5:20 Friday evening, a call came in to 9-1-1 Dispatch from a driver on Route 11 of heavy smoke coming from Rosen’s Recycling on US Route 11 (Homer Ave.).

Arriving units confirmed heavy black smoke coming from the structure and expanded to a building adjacent. Cortlandville Command immediately called for a second alarm all hands fire.

The intensity of the fire caused the fire to spread to the neighboring building, the Son’s of Sam Motorcycle Club. The Motorcycle Club buildings roof line caught fire, which then quickly caused a collapse of the roof.

Firefighters worked to knock out the fire from the outside as the danger of fighting the flames from inside was too high. Additional Fire Departments from Homer, McGraw, McLean, Virgil, and Dryden responded to the fire.

Firefighters continued to battle heavy fire and the risk of possible propane tanks inside exploding from Rosen’s Recycling. Firefighters were able to have the fire extinguished in about 45 minutes from the original call.
