Final Tally Is In For Hospicare’s ‘Women Swimmin’ With Over $670K Raised
The results are now in from this year’s 2025 Hospicare ‘Women Swimmin’ Fundraiser that took place in Cayuga Lake on August 9th. It was the 22nd annual event.
The funds raised through Women Swimmin’ represent 10% of Hospicare’s operating budget, helping ensure patients and families in Tompkins and Cortland counties receive high-quality hospice, palliative, and bereavement care—regardless of ability to pay.
Because of water conditions, swimmers took on a shorter, modified course this year, but that didn’t stop the celebration. 327 women swam, guided by 150 paddlers and boaters, and supported by 140 volunteers on shore. Together, our community raised an incredible
$679, 622, surpassing last year’s record by $2,000.
“The morning at the Ithaca Yacht Club was filled with sunshine, live music from the Yardvarks, and a joyful crowd cheering on swimmers. It was a true reflection of the Women Swimmin’ spirit: compassion, celebration, and community”
says Hospicare.
Top individual fundraisers included Dr. Ann Costello ($24,031), Hospicare’s Medical Director Dr. Lucia Jander ($23,170), and Kate McKee ($13,725). Leading the teams were Team Sue ($86,076), CSP Management ($50,102), and the FLAIRinas ($29,465).
Nearly four dozen more participants supported the cause by Going the Distance with creative personal challenges, while 102 first-time swimmers joined the tradition this year.
Behind the scenes, the event was organized by Dana Havas, Hospicare’s Community Events and Development Associate, along with a team of 16 planning volunteers and staff who work nearly year-round to bring the event to life.
