Fight at Courthouse Park Ends with One Citation Amid Lack of Cooperation, Evidence

Around 5:30 in the evening last Wednesday, September 10th, Cortland Police responded to a reported fight at Courthouse Park in the City of Cortland. Arriving officers found several individuals actively fighting in the parking, including a 17-year old male. One of the persons involved was identified as 32 year old Alyssa Foster.

Cortland Police say Foster was seen breaking free from another woman’s grip and then punching the 17-year old male in the shoulder. Cortland Police say the male was visibly upset and was bleeding from the lip. He then grabbed a folding knife that was on the grass in the park.

Officers quickly secured the knife and detained the male, who calmed down and declined any medical attention or charges against Foster.

A witness told police of a 29 year old male also involved in the fight. The male told police he had intervened to stop the male minor from making threats and restrained him, denying any kind of assault.

Cortland Police say due to a lack of cooperation and no clear evidence of any other offenses, only Foster was cited with an appearance ticket for Disorderly Conduct. She is due in Cortland City Court next week.
