FDA Investigation Into Elevated Lead Levels in Applesauce Pouches Continue

The Food and Drug Administration is continuing their investigation of elevated lead levels in cinnamon applesauce pouches. The products are being recalled and the FDA urges anyone who may have them to not consume the product. The applesauce has been recalled in three brandings: WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree Pouches, Schnucks-Brand Cinnamon-flavored applesauce pouches and variety packs, and Weis-Brand Cinnamon applesauce pouches.


The FDA says stores affected by the recall include: Amazon, Dollar Tree, and other online outlets. The FDA continued in their release of reports of WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Puree still on the shelves at several Dollar Tree stores and says the product should not be available and consumers should not purchase the product.

As of November 22nd, there have been 52 reports of adverse events which are potentially linked to the recalled product to the FDA. To date the FDA says, confirmed complainants are less than 1 to 4 years of age.
