This morning’s first edition of a new segment on WXHC with Family Counseling Services (FCS) discussed a few effective strategies for managing stress and anxiety, especially as they relate to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Today’s discussion featured Kaitlin Jones, an LCSW and Regional Director for Madison County Clinics. FCS-Cortland is a shared service operating in both Madison and Cortland Counties.

According to Jones, there’s nothing more essential to a healthy emotional state than proper self care.

“Getting enough sleep is so important because your mind needs time to recover from the day,” Jones said. “Exercise is just as important because it keeps your endorphins flowing, and making sure to eat the right foods can also make all the difference.”

Other topics of discussion included good habits to reduce your risk of infection, as well as other stress-reduction strategies like steering positive thoughts and setting boundaries on “tuning in” time.
