Faulty Transformer Takes Out Power to Several Hundred Homes in Cortland and Cortlandville

A faulty transformer caused power outages and power disruptions in the Polkville area last night.

Around 6:30 Thursday night, the Cortland County 911 Center received a report of a transformer that was on fire near the Intertek Testing Labs on Route 11 in Cortlandville.
Reports then came in about residential power outages and traffic lights not working along the Port Watson Street corridor.

National Grid reported more than800 homes in the City of Cortland and surrounding area were without power.

A Cortland County 911 dispatcher said Thursday that the outages are likely related to an electrical problem with a transformer in Polkville.

Power has since been restored to the affected area.
