One man was killed during a house fire this morning in Cuyler, which remains under investigation.

State Police at Homer responded just after 10 am with members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Cuyler Fire Department and Truxton Fire Department.

Several other fire agencies in Cortland County and Madison County also helped at the scene, along with others from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department, NYS Forensic Identification Unit and State Fire.

The initial call was a suspicious fire at a home on State Route 13, near Crains Mills Road.

Nobody else was present besides the man who was found dead inside.

His identity won’t be released until first of kin are notified.

Part of the roadway was shut down for several hours while crews managed the investigation.
