Fans Get First Taste Of New Grateful Dead Doc Online

Music News

The trailer to Grateful Dead’s career-spanning documentary, Long Strange Trip, has made its way online. Long Strange Trip will hit theaters on May 26th and Amazon Prime Video on June 2nd. Also out on May 26th is the double-disc soundtrack collection, which will be released via Rhino — with an Amazon version including an additional CD of material including alternate studio mixes studio and concert recordings with unreleased live performances.

Justin Kreutzmann — son of drummer Bill Kreutzmann and longtime documentarian for Pete Townshend and the Who — served as a producer on the new documentary, which was executive produced by Martin Scorsese. Prior to the film being announced, Justin told us that he felt too close to the band to ever provide a truly unflinching look at the Grateful Dead’s career: “My fear is that I have a lot less objectivity than somebody might and a lot of personal points of view that might not make it as even as somebody (else). So, I definitely do not have any perspective of ‘Wow, what’s this like from the outside?’ So, I would do it, but with some. . . y’know what I mean? Like, I need that other perspective to make a fair film.”
