FamilyCare Looks to Drop Excellus by End of Year

In a letter issued to their patients, the FamilyCare Medical Group says they look to drop Excellus by the end of December this year.

“We have notified Excellus Health Plan (Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Central New York) of our intention to terminate our professional provider agreement on December 31, 2024. We did so well in advance of our 90-day notice. We did so to give our valued patients time to prepare.”

President and CEO of FamilyCare Medical Group Mitchell Brodey said in the letter.

The company did note they are continuing their negotiations in achieving a new contract with Excellus. FamilyCare says Excellus “has not lived up” to their commitment in supporting clinical programs.

Patients who have Excellus may continue without any changes until December 31st, 2024. FamilyCare does ask patients to look at any appointments after the New Year and make adjustments.

In addition to checking future appointments, FamilyCare suggests patients review their coverage options and noted FamilyCare will remain in-network with other agencies including MVP Health Care, Humana, Aethna and UnitedHealthcare.

“We understand the termination of the Excellus contract could have a significant impact on about a third of our patients. This potential shift also has implications for our physicians and staff.”

Brodey continued in the letter.

There was no word on the impact of FamilyCare’s Cortland location, the Cortland Health Center on Fisher Ave.
