A well known, and family owned jewelry store has recently been awarded $29,500 under the Microenterprise Assistance Program (MAP) Funds under the Community Development Block Grant.

Robinson’s Family Jewelers on Groton Ave. in Downtown Cortland was awarded the grant after a review by the MAP Review Committee. The committee then submitted their recommendations to the Cortland Common Council, who had final approval for the grant funding.

The Common Council voted unanimously to approve Robinson’s Family Jewelers the funds with Mayor Scott Steve signing commitment letters and details of the terms and conditions of the award.

With the grant funds, Robinson’s plans to purchase a laser welder, and an arc welder. The purchases will allow the family business to move repairs in-house, which will help them increase revenue and possibly add another employee.

To be eligible for the microenterprise grant, businesses must have 5 or fewer employees (by headcount and not full-time employees). Grant funding is still available and businesses owners are encouraged to seek additional information with the city.
