The Family & Children’s Counseling Services has recently announced that the organization took part in a proclamation conducted by the Cortland County Legislature in anticipation of “P.S. I Love You Day” in the county, which will be on Friday, February 10th.
The day was founded by the DiPalma family to recognize their father and a student from West Islip High School who both died by suicide in early 2010. P.S. I Love You Day is held every second Friday in February and the family asks everyone to wear purple to stand up against bullying, help end depression, and work to prevent suicide.
The Family and Children’s Counseling Services works to support the mission of the day and works to bring awareness to the importance of mental health and decreasing bullying. The mission works to educate students earlier about mental health so conversations regarding them will be easier to discuss and students will then be able to recognize when they or others around them need help.
The proclamation to the Family & Children’s Counseling Services was presented by County Legislator Ann Homer to Executive Director Lisa Hoeschele and Jeanette Dippo, Coalition member of the Suicide Prevention Coalition of CNY.
