Fall HS sports postponed to September

Local News

Local high school sports are now delayed until at least September 21, announced yesterday by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.

Regional and state championship games have been completely cancelled for the Fall.

Student-athletes had previously been gearing up for an August 24th start to their respective seasons.

The NCAA also released updated guidance yesterday for schools to be able to play college sports amid the pandemic.

Some of the requirements would include testing all athletes for the virus no more than 72 hours before playing and mandating everyone on the sideline wear a mask.

“If there is to be college sports in the fall, we need to get a much better handle on the pandemic,” stated NCAA President Mark Emmert.
