Fake check-cashing scheme in Cortland leads to 3rd arrest

A third person from the area has been arrested in an apparent fraudulent check scheme.

In January, police learned fake payroll checks appearing to be from Cortland Country Club had been cashed around Cortland and Tompkins Counties.

The amount stolen totaled more than $4,300.

An 18-year-old male from Cortland was charged in relation to the crime.

That was followed just over a week later by the arrest of 52-year-old Lisa Pagliaro, of Dryden, on March 16.

Yesterday (April 20), State Police at Homer took 40-year-old Jamie Gonzalez into custody.

All three face felony counts of possessing a forged instrument; Gonzales received two, while the others got one each.
