Extreme Cold Warning Issued – Wind Chills as Low as 30 Below Zero

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton is warning of dangerously cold temperatures throughout the state for tomorrow, Saturday through Sunday afternoon. An Extreme Cold Warning has been issued from 4am Saturday through 1pm Sunday.

The NWS says wind chills could be as low as 30 below zero at times. With the extreme cold, frostbite on exposed skin can happen in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed in the predicted temperatures, the NWS warns.

Residents are advised to dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves, if planning to go outside. Pets should also be kept indoors as much as possible. Temperatures are only expected to reach 2 degrees Saturday and 7 degrees Sunday.

Conditions will also be windy Saturday with wind gusts up to 34 mph.
