Experience Cortland to Hold Cortland Curiosities Market

Get yourself in the Halloween spirit by buying some locally-sourced bones, perfume, tea, tarot and antiques.

The third annual Cortland Curiosities Market will be held on Friday, October 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at The Vault in Cortland. Fifteen vendors will sell Halloween-themed, vintage or macabre items.

“We wanted to promote Cortland Curiosities in a unique way that allowed us to highlight some of the more curious and strange creators within Cortland County,”

said Candace Rozansky, Content Creator for Experience Cortland.

“The bar that is run by The Vault itself will be open, serving up delicious iced coffees and ciders you can spike, and a spooky cocktail,” Rozansky said. There will be a lounge space where you can stretch out and enjoy any goodies you bought at the market.”

From The Dirt Craftworks will sell animal bones and teeth, Evermore will sell handcrafted macabre jewelry, and Good Neighbor Art will sell her “Memento Mori” line of work.

Nipotina Herb Farm is creating special tea blends for the event, and will also sell tea ritual packets, to be blindly selected by the buyer. They will come with blending instructions and a tarot or oracle card.

The market was inspired by Cortland Curiosities: A Strange and Forgotten History Trail. The project, which is by Experience Cortland, is a website with eleven different trails, consisting of creepy and potentially haunted historical sites in Cortland County.

The trails visit sites like where the Truxton Beast was seen, the 1890 House, the old Gillette Factory and historic graves.

The “Whodunit in Homer” trail walks you through the steps of a notorious Homer cold case; the 1894 murder of Patrick Quinlan. Go to cortlandcuriosities.com/trails/ to get exploring.
