Last week was National Travel & Tourism Week, which had to be celebrated much differently this year due to the statewide pause caused by the arrival of COVID-19 in March.
Experience Cortland director Meghan Lawton and her team have been hard at work coming up with unique ways for the community to explore the best of what Cortland County has to offer in a virtual setting.
That included a week-long video series entitled “Spirit of Cortland,” along with the creation of a virtual hike, live-streamed concerts, remote Bingo games and so much more.
“The COVID-19 public health crisis is having a devastating impact on the U.S. travel and tourism industry, a ripple effect very much felt here in Cortland County,” Lawton said. “This year, more than ever, the travel and tourism industry must unite together, support each other and remind the country that even through the most difficult of times, the spirit of travel cannot be broken.”
We caught up with Lawton to talk more about the status and future outlook of the local travel and tourism industry.
