Endicott Man Facing Rape, Assault Charges Following Cortland Domestic Incident
An Endicott man is facing multiple felony charges, including first-degree rape and assault, following a domestic violence incident on Tompkins Street earlier this week, according to the Cortland Police Department.
Travis M. Bismark, 33, turned himself in to the Endicott Police Department on September 30th, roughly 27 hours after officers responded to a reported domestic dispute at 212 Tompkins Street at approximately 10 a.m. on September 29th.
According to police, Bismark allegedly followed his estranged partner from Endicott to Cortland, violating an active order of protection issued after a previous domestic incident. Upon arriving at 212 Tompkins, Bismark engaged in a verbal altercation with the victim, prevented her from leaving, threatened and injured her with a knife, and sexually assaulted her. Investigators said Bismark also took the woman’s phone to prevent her from calling emergency services for help.
After turning himself in to Endicott police, Bismark was turned over to the Cortland Police Department. He faces several felony and misdemeanor charges:
First-degree rape, Aggravated criminal contempt, Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, Second-degree assault, Two counts of first-degree criminal contempt, all felonies.
Second-degree unlawful imprisonment, Fourth-degree criminal mischief, Second-degree menacing, Fourth-degree stalking, all misdemeanors.
Bismark was arraigned in Cortland City Court and remanded to the Cortland County Jail after bail was set. He is scheduled to return to Cortland City Court on Oct. 16 at 10 a.m.
