Employment up For Cortland County in October

The New York State Department of Labor reports overall private sector employment in the state is down 800 jobs for the month of October to 8,391,000 jobs. The state unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.4%. The news was better for Cortland County though, the county saw an increase of 600 jobs for October when compared to October 2023.

Cortland County now has 19,500 private sector non-farm jobs. This time last year, the county had around 18,900 jobs. Neighboring Tompkins County saw another decrease in the total number of private sector jobs by 1.6%. Tompkins County for October ‘24 had 62,700 people employed, down from 63,700 in October of last year.
