The JM Murray Center held their annual dinner last night at the Cortland Country Club. During the dinner, the organization announced their 2023 Employer of the Year and this year’s recipient to the Alan J. Brown Award. The dinner also had a recognition for outgoing Board member the honorable Lenore Lefevre and words from a representative of New York Senator Webb’s Office.

JM Murray has named Moe’s Southwest Grill as the 2023 Employer of the Year. Accepting the award was manager William Keegan. JM Murray recognizes a local employer each year who has gone above and beyond in creating a supportive working environment for those with disabilities to be able to obtain and maintain competitive employment.

Afterwards, this year’s Alan F. Brown awardee was named next.

“The award was created back in 1983 to honor Brown, who epitomized the sense of spirit and personal dignity that is at the heart of JM Murray” JM Murray said in a release.

This year, Nicole Bell was named the recipient of the Alan F. Brown Award. JM Murray says Bell has been a fighter at birth, an inspiration to others, and is someone who is determined to overcome all obstacles.

“Rather than focusing on her disabilities, Ms. Bell has focused on her abilities and joy of helping others. Over the last several years she has done so much for others through volunteer work in the community while receiving DH services at JM. She shops for local Day Care Centers and Senior Centers, cleans at numerous Firehalls and Churches, recycles for the SPCA, makes deliveries to CAPCO and Loaves and fishes, makes cards and writes letters to those in need, packages hygiene kits for Guthrie Hospital etc.” JM Murray said.
