A Cortland woman faces three felonies related to welfare fraud.
Investigators with the county sheriff’s office say 33-year-old Tiphanie French, of Penguin Drive was able to net herself more than $2,000 in benefits she was not entitled to.
French did so by providing DSS with fraudulent information on her household composition between August and December of 2020.
She is now charged with a count each of the following:
- Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the 1st Degree (class E felony)
- Welfare Fraud in the 4th Degree (class E felony)
- Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree (class E felony)
French was issued a ticket to appear in city court for the crimes on January 22.
