Dryden house fire knocked down in minutes

Crews in Dryden knocked down a sizable house fire yesterday evening on Portzline Drive, not far from the Tompkins Cortland Community College main campus.

Dryden Fire & Ambulance were dispatched around 5:20 pm, arriving within seven minutes to find one home on fire and several other nearby structures at risk of immediate exposure.

Fire Engine 501 began a rapid attack and doused most of the blaze within minutes before extinguishing it completely by 5:40 pm.

On-scene assistance was provided by Freeville & McLean Fire Departments, while Virgil crews stood by at the Dryden fire station.

Also helping at the scene were members of Dryden Police, TC3 Police and the Tompkins County Sheriff Department.

Tompkins County Air Truck responded for breathing air and NYSEG for electric and gas shutoff.
