Drunk Driving, Accident Lead to Arrest in Locke
A routine call reporting a car accident turned into a driving while intoxicated arrest for a Niles man in the Town of Locke on the evening of December 7, 2025. At approximately 6:31 PM, deputies responded to a 911 call from 25-year-old Gage Benson of Niles, who reported striking a deer near 1215 State Route 38. During the subsequent investigation, deputies determined Benson was intoxicated and took him into custody. Benson was transported to the Public Safety Building where a chemical breath test indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.17%, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08%.
Sheriff Brian Schenck reported that Benson was charged with DWI 1st offense, DWI with a BAC of 0.08% or higher, having an open container, and operating a vehicle without a valid NYS inspection. Following processing, he was issued uniform traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in Locke Town Court on December 17, 2025.
