An Ithaca man was charged with Driving While Intoxicated after taking down a utility pole early Friday (February 7) morning on Route 215 near Bennie Road in Cortlandville, injuring two passengers and causing closures for about two hours.
Deputies with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office say 29-year-old Aliester Wells-Burlingame, of Ringwood Road, was operating a 2007 Nissan Sentra when he failed to negotiate a curve just past 1 am, leaving the roadway and shearing a utility pole.
That caused downed wires in the roadway and closed a section of Route 215 for about two hours.
Two passengers were brought to Guthrie Cortland by TLC ambulance and treated for minor injuries.
One of them is less than seventeen-year-old, resulting in an Endangering the Welfare of a Child charge for Wells-Burlingame, as well.
He also has a previous DWI conviction within the past 10 years.
Wells-Burlingame was released on appearance tickets to Cortlandville Town Court on the 24th of this month.
In addition to TLC, the Sheriff’s Office was also assisted at the scene by members of the Cortland Fire Department, CNY Towing and National Grid.
