Drugs, DWI, Threats And Attacks Among Weekend Arrests In Cortland

Cortland Police provided information on arrests from over the weekend:

Somebody saw someone in a vehicle acting suspicious, and said something.

Cortland Police did something, arresting James Barned, 34, of Cortland.

Police say he was on Front Street just after 8:30 Saturday morning.

Officers say they found heroin, marijuana and a needle in the vehicle.

According to Lt. Rick Troyer Barned was released on the possession charges until City court Tuesday.

Going the wrong way on Main Street in Cortland right after closing time will draw attention.

Elizabeth Kuhn, 37, of Moravia learned that Sunday morning at about 2:30 am.

Cortland Police say she was charged with DWI, refusing to take a breath test and the wrong way ticket.

She is also accused of falsely presenting herself as a Cayuga County Sheriff’s deputy.

Kuhn was released and is due back in court May 16.

A man from Cortland is accused of going to a home on Elm Street and choking a 25-year old woman who had an order of protection against him.

Cortland Police say Nicholas Baldassare, 26, attacked the woman at about 10:45 Friday night.

Lt. Rick Troyer says Baldassare was arrested for felony Criminal Contempt, felony Burglary, and Obstruction of Breathing.

He was sent to the Cortland County Jail awaiting $5,000 cash bail and court Monday.

Cortland Police report that a man from Cortland was arrested Friday evening at 9:30 for threatening to kill a woman and her children.

Edward Grant, 37, was charged with harassment.

Police say he called a 25-year old woman with the threat about an hour before his arrest.

He was released to appear in City Court on May 16.

Cortland Police spotted the damaged windshield of Laurieann Nielsen, 38, of Taylor on Friday afternoon just before 4.

Police say she also had some heroin in the vehicle and didn’t have a license to drive.

She was ticketed and released until an appearance scheduled in Cortland City Court on Tuesday.

Lt. Rick Troyer also tells X101 News that a passenger in Nielsen’s car, Michelle Rice, 34, of Cortland, was also arrested for having a needle and meth.

She was sent to the Cortland County Jail awaiting a thousand dollars cash bail and City Court on Tuesday.
