Local authorities are investigating a fatal drowning that occurred yesterday morning in the town of Scott.
The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched just before 10 am to the area of Cold Brook Road.
A male, 21, was not breathing after being pulled from the water by members of a work crew nearby.
Officers later discovered the deceased man was part of that group. They told police he had gone into the water at one point and never came up.

The subject was then brought to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
He has been identified by investigators as a 21-year-old male not from the area. The family of the subject has been notified.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with relevant information is asked to contact Sgt. John Gallagher of the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office by calling 607-758-5562.
