Driver Taken to Upstate Following Delivery Van Crash on Route 41 in Homer
Homer Fire, TLC Ambulance, and State Police were dispatched to the area of 4968 Route 41 just outside the Village of Homer for a single-vehicle crash around 8:15 a.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, first responders found a white Ram ProMaster delivery van that had crashed into a utility pole. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle with injuries.

Route 41 was shut down between Suits Avenue and Creal Road as firefighters were able to extricate the driver 10 minutes after arriving on scene. State Police told X101 News that troopers determined the cause of the crash was the driver traveling too fast for current road conditions.
The driver, identified as 22-year-old Kavion N. Rufus of Syracuse, lost control of the van, crossed into the westbound lane of traffic, and struck a utility pole.
Rufus was transported to Upstate University Hospital for further treatment. Route 41 remained closed while crews cleared the scene and removed the van. National Grid also responded to inspect the utility pole that was struck. The roadway reopened around 10:40 a.m.
