Driver Fails to Yield to Oncoming Traffic Causing Crash at Intersection of Route 13 and Bennie Road

Around 5:15 Friday afternoon, Cortlandville Fire, TLC Ambulance, and officers with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Route 13 and Bennie Road in front of Walmart for a reported two-vehicle crash with injuries. Upon arrival, the Sheriff’s Office says three vehicles were actually involved in the crash.

Route 13 Northbound was closed in the right lane with Bennie Road closed off to Route 13 as emergency crews worked on scene. The Sheriff’s Office says there were only minor injuries.

An investigation into the cause of the crash determined a vehicle traveling southbound on Route 13 had failed to yield to oncoming traffic headed northbound on Route 13 while attempting to turn left onto Bennie Road. Traffic was briefly backed up on Route 13 northbound due to the rush hour commute.
