On Saturday afternoon, a down power line on Route 13 in Homer sparked a brush fire just off the road.
Homer Fire responded quickly after calls came in of the reported brush/grass fire in the area. Route 13 was shut down by emergency responders until National Grid was able to respond to disconnect the live wire and for firefighters to extinguish the fire.
With the current weather conditions being as dry as they have been, the Homer Fire Department is asking the public to be aware when having any type of outdoor campfire or cooking fires as the conditions are prime for fires to spread quickly.
