Update 10/11: The Department of Transportation has announced the closure planned for the Route 281 Bridge over I81 has been delayed due to weather conditions. The DOT says the closure will now take place beginning on October 20th through Monday, October 23rd.
Original Story:
Motorists will have to find an alternate route beginning on Friday, October 13th at 7pm until Monday, October 16th at 6am. The New York State Department of Transportation has announced the Route 281 bridge that crosses over I81 in Preble will be closed for repairs.
Detour signs will be in place for motorists. For those traveling southbound on Route 281, the DOT says to take I81 north to Tully (Exit 14) and proceed to I81 Southbound until the Preble exit (Exit 13).
Traffic headed northbound in Route 281 who would require going over the bridge must get on I81 North in Homer (Exit 12). Motorists will then use the Preble exit (Exit 13) to continue north on Route 281.
The DOT says construction work will be weather permitting and to exercise increased caution when traveling through a work zone.
